Posted on

If your vehicle doesn't have any heat, it can make driving during the cold weather months a daunting task. Driving in the cold is never a good idea, as your windows can freeze and it can make for hazardous driving. If your vehicle doesn't have heat, it can also be dangerous for you, because if you get stuck out in the cold, you won't have anything to keep you warm and hypothermia can easily set it. If you your heat isn't working, there are a few things you can do to help get it working again. Read on for helpful tips.

Check For Any Heat At All

First, be sure your heat isn't working at all. If you have some heat, it may just be that your knob in your vehicle isn't put on properly. You could pop off the knob and put it on properly to ensure you are turning the heat on the right way. The same could be said for your air conditioning. If it doesn't seem like the air conditioning knob is correct, it may be because it isn't on properly. Line up the knob and put it back on the correct way.

Replace The Thermostat

If you do not have any heat at all, the thermostat more than likely needs to be changed. To know exactly where the thermostat is located, you should check your car manufacturer's booklet to see where exactly this is located. Your car may actually have two thermostats, so you need to be sure you change them both. To remove the thermostat, remove the housing and bolts holding it in place, then replace it with the new part. Repeat on the other thermostat as well, if you have more than one. Be sure you are replacing it with the correct part for your year and model vehicle. If you aren't sure how to do any of this, you should take your car in to be serviced properly at an auto repair shop.

If your vehicle doesn't have heat, it could result in a dangerous situation for you and for others. If you have a problem with your heat, take your vehicle to an auto repair shop to be worked on  to ensure your heat is working properly as it should. Don't take the risk and drive without heat this winter, get your car inspected by an automotive repair professional and repaired as needed.
